Big Green Week HQ
Big Green Week is about communities coming together to protect nature, tackle climate change, and look after the places we share — with practical, hopeful action that anyone can join.
Local action with a national heartbeat
Big Green Week is a UK-wide celebration of community action for climate and nature, with events run by local groups, schools, councils, charities, faith communities and neighbours.
Here in Tranmere (and over into Rock Ferry too), St Caths has built something genuinely special: litter picks, nature walks, guerrilla gardening, community quizzes (even with local politicians popping in), and the kind of face-to-face togetherness that makes people proud of where they live.

What is Great Big Green Week?
A nationwide week of events and activities that celebrates what communities are already doing — and invites more people to join in.
UK’s biggest celebration of community action
Great Big Green Week brings people together to show that climate and nature action can be joyful, practical, local — and done side-by-side, whatever your background.
- Who gets involved: communities, schools, faith groups, businesses, charities, neighbours
- What it looks like: clean-ups, workshops, nature walks, festivals, film nights, swaps and community projects
- Why it matters: strengthens communities and protects the places we live
How churches fit beautifully into it
For churches, caring for creation is a lived-out expression of faith: loving our neighbour, looking after our shared home, and building genuine community across difference.

What to bring: comfy shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, and a good mood
“Love where you live” energy
Big Green Week works best when it feels local — not like a “campaign” happening somewhere else. It’s neighbours meeting neighbours, people from different backgrounds working side-by-side, and small actions that add up to a place looking and feeling better.

Cathy’s team
A proper shout-out to the organiser spirit that turns ideas into real-life community wins.
I’ve watched Cathy from St Caths organise her team together — and I’m proud to be part of it now. The amount of time, effort, and heart she puts in is something else.
We’ve done litter picks across Tranmere and Rock Ferry, transformed “gorilla gardens” into places people smile at, organised nature walks, and even put on community quizzes where local politicians have come along too.
It’s not just about “being green” — it’s about bringing people together face-to-face, regardless of background, and doing something positive for the place we all share.
Thank you, Cathy — and thank you to everyone who turns up, week after week, and makes it real.
— Oavo
Why it’s powerful
Big Green Week doesn’t just clean streets or plant flowers — it builds connection. People who might never normally meet end up on the same path, holding the same litter picker, laughing at the same quiz question.
